A woman who wanted a child planted a magic seed. A beautiful tulip grew, and inside it sat a tiny girl, no bigger than a thumb. The woman called her Thumbelina.

Traduction

Thumbelina slept in a walnut shell. But one night, an ugly toad took her away. "You will marry my son!" said the toad, and she left Thumbelina on a lily pad in the river.

Traduction

Some kind fish helped her escape. All summer, Thumbelina lived alone in the forest. She ate flowers and drank dew from the leaves.

Traduction

When winter came, a field mouse gave her a warm home. But the mouse wanted her to marry a rich, blind mole who lived underground and hated the sun.

Traduction

In the mole's tunnel, Thumbelina found a swallow, frozen and weak. Every night, she secretly brought him food and covered him with a blanket. In spring, the swallow was strong again.

Traduction

"Come with me!" said the swallow. Thumbelina climbed on his back, and they flew to a warm country full of flowers. There she met the tiny prince of the flower people, and she was happy at last.

Traduction
