Two days after Christmas, Dr Watson visited his friend Sherlock Holmes in Baker Street. Holmes was examining an old, battered hat.

Traduction

A policeman called Peterson had found the hat in the street, along with a Christmas goose, after a fight. Peterson had taken the goose home to cook it.

Traduction

Suddenly, Peterson burst into the room. "Mr Holmes! Look what my wife found inside the goose!" In his hand was a brilliant blue stone: the Countess of Morcar's famous jewel, stolen a few days before!

Traduction

Soudain, Peterson fit irruption dans la pièce. « Monsieur Holmes !

A poor plumber had been arrested for the theft, but Holmes was not convinced. He followed the trail of the goose: from the owner of the hat to a pub, and from the pub to a market seller.

Traduction

At the market, they met a nervous little man asking about the same goose. It was James Ryder, a servant at the countess's hotel. He had stolen the jewel and hidden it in a goose's throat, but then he had lost track of the bird!

Traduction

Ryder confessed, crying. Holmes thought for a moment, then opened the door. "Get out!" Ryder ran away. "It is the season of forgiveness," Holmes explained to Watson. "The plumber will be freed, and I don't think Ryder will ever steal again."

Traduction
