En général, on forme le pluriel en ajoutant -s : a book → two books. Mais l'orthographe change pour certaines terminaisons, et quelques noms très courants sont irréguliers.

Exceptions courantes : roofs, chiefs, beliefs (en -f) et photos, pianos, radios, videos, zoos, kilos (en -o).

Les noms invariables
Certains noms ne changent pas au pluriel : one sheep → two sheep, a fish → three fish, a deer → two deer.
Toujours au pluriel… ou toujours au singulier
- Toujours pluriels (objets en deux parties) : trousers, jeans, shorts, glasses, scissors, pyjamas, ainsi que clothes. On dit a pair of trousers pour « un pantalon ».
- Jamais au pluriel (indénombrables) : information, advice, furniture, luggage, homework, news. On dit some advice, a piece of information, et The news is good.
