the British Islesles îles Britanniques (l'archipel)
Scotland is part of the UK.L'Écosse fait partie du Royaume-Uni.
The UK includes Northern Ireland.Le Royaume-Uni comprend l'Irlande du Nord.
British ≠ Englishbritannique ≠ anglais

Utile : is part of (fait partie de), includes (comprend).

Mise en situation : le malentendu

Hugo : My cousin lives in Edinburgh, in England.
Mon cousin habite à Édimbourg, en Angleterre.
Fiona : No! Edinburgh is in Scotland, not England!
Non ! Édimbourg est en Écosse, pas en Angleterre !
Hugo : Sorry! But Scotland is part of Great Britain, isn't it?
Pardon !
Fiona : Yes. Great Britain is the island: England, Scotland and Wales.
Oui.
Hugo : And the UK?
Et le Royaume-Uni ?
Fiona : The UK includes Northern Ireland too. So I'm British and Scottish, but I'm not English!

  • Great Britain (l'île), the United Kingdom (l'État), the British Isles (l'archipel), the Republic of Ireland.
  • is part of, includes ; British (britannique) ≠ English (anglais) ; ..., isn't it?
