Les grands nombres

NombreEn anglais
100a hundred / one hundred
250two hundred and fifty
1,000a thousand
3,476three thousand, four hundred and seventy-six
1,000,000a million
2,500,000two and a half million / two million five hundred thousand

Half of the class has a dog. / Seventy per cent of the Earth is covered by water.

Teacher : How many people live in India?
Combien de personnes vivent en Inde ?
Inès : About one point four billion. That's more than a sixth of the world's population.
Teacher : Very good. And what percentage of Indians live in cities?
So about two thirds live in the countryside.

  • a billion = un milliard ; 2.5 = two point five.
  • a half, a third, a quarter, three quarters, two thirds.
  • 25% = twenty-five per cent.
