Dans une recette, on utilise l'impératif (fry, stir, add, spread, bake) et des quantités : How much + indénombrable (How much milk?), How many + dénombrable (How many carrots?), some à l'affirmative, any à l'interrogative et à la négative.

Mise en situation : le cours de cuisine

Chef : Today we're making shepherd's pie! How many onions do we need?
Ruby : Two onions and three carrots.
Deux oignons et trois carottes.
Chef : Good. Fry them gently. Now add the minced lamb and stir.
Bien. Faites-les revenir doucement. Maintenant, ajoutez l'agneau haché et remuez.
Ben : Is there any salt?
Il y a du sel ?
Chef : Yes, but just a pinch. Next, spread the mashed potatoes on top, like a blanket.
Ruby : How long do we bake it?
Chef : Thirty minutes, until the top is golden. Then... enjoy!
