Le dimanche matin, au Royaume-Uni, on va souvent à un car boot sale : les vendeurs installent leurs objets d'occasion dans le coffre (the boot) de leur voiture, dans un champ ou un parking. On y trouve des jouets, des livres, des vêtements... et on peut marchander poliment : Can I have it for...? Une bonne affaire se dit a bargain.

Mise en situation : au vide-grenier

Noah : Mum, look! A remote control car! How much is this?
Maman, regarde ! Une voiture télécommandée ! Combien coûte ceci ?

C'est deux livres.
Noah : Hmm... Can I have it for one pound fifty?
Hmm... Je peux l'avoir pour une livre cinquante ?
Seller : OK, one pound fifty. It's a bargain!
D'accord, une livre cinquante. C'est une bonne affaire !
Mum : And these books? How much are they?
Et ces livres ? Combien coûtent-ils ?
Seller : Twenty pence each. We're selling all our old things.
