Ses premiers mots à son assistant, dans la pièce d'à côté, furent : Mr Watson, come here, I want to see you! Pour parler d'une invention, on utilise le prétérit : He invented the telephone.

Mise en situation : le premier appel

Bell : Mr Watson, come here, I want to see you!
Watson : Mr Bell! I heard you! I heard every word!
Monsieur Bell ! Je vous ai entendu ! J'ai entendu chaque mot !
Bell : Really? It works! The telephone works!
Vraiment ? Ça marche ! Le téléphone marche !
Watson : This is amazing! People can talk from far away!
C'est incroyable ! Les gens peuvent se parler de loin !
Bell : One day, every house will have a telephone.
