They are accused of abusing their power.
Should they be regulated more strictly?

Passif : are accused of, should be regulated, could be broken up.

Mise en situation : le débat

Teacher : A few tech giants control search, social media and online shopping. Is that a problem?
Hugo : Yes. They're like monopolies. Small companies can't compete, and when they become successful, they're bought by the giants.
Oui.
Lina : But their services are free and very useful. I use them every day.
Hugo : They're not really free. We pay with our personal data.
Ils ne sont pas vraiment gratuits. Nous payons avec nos données personnelles.
Teacher : In the EU, new rules force them to open their platforms to competitors. Should they be broken up too?
Lina : Maybe they should be regulated more strictly first. Breaking them up seems extreme.
