🔁 Le présent simple

Quand l'utiliser ? Habitudes, vérités générales, goûts. Mots-clés : always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every day.

FormeExemple

NégatifI don't play / She doesn't play
QuestionDo you play? / Does she play?
Réponse courteYes, I do. / No, she doesn't.

⚠️ Les pièges

  • Pas de s après doesn't : she doesn't plays → she doesn't play.
  • Verbes en -o, -s, -sh, -ch, -x : goes, watches, fixes.
  • Consonne + y : study → studies (mais play → plays).

⏯️ Le présent continu (be + V-ing)

Quand l'utiliser ? Action en cours au moment où l'on parle, situation temporaire, projet proche. Mots-clés : now, at the moment, look!, listen!

FormeExemple
AffirmatifI am reading / He is reading / They are reading
NégatifI'm not reading / He isn't reading
QuestionAre you reading? / Is he reading?

⚠️ Les pièges

  • Verbes d'état rarement en -ing : like, love, know, want, understand (I know, pas I am knowing).
  • Orthographe : swim → swimming, make → making, lie → lying.

⏪ Le prétérit simple

Quand l'utiliser ? Action passée, terminée, datée. Mots-clés : yesterday, last week, ago, in 2010, when I was young.

FormeExemple
Verbes réguliersI played, she worked (+ ed)
Verbes irréguliersI went, she saw (à apprendre par cœur)
NégatifI didn't play / I didn't go (base verbale après didn't)
QuestionDid you play? / Did you go?

⚠️ Les pièges

  • Après did / didn't, le verbe reste à la base : Did you went → Did you go.
  • Be : I was / you were, wasn't / weren't, Was she...?
  • Prononciation de -ed : /t/ worked, /d/ played, /ɪd/ wanted.

🔗 Le present perfect (have + participe passé)

Quand l'utiliser ? Lien entre passé et présent : expérience (ever, never), bilan (already, yet, just), durée qui continue (for, since).

FormeExemple

NégatifI haven't seen it yet.
QuestionHave you ever been to Scotland?
DuréeI have lived here for three years / since 2020.

⚠️ Les pièges

  • Jamais avec une date passée précise : I have seen him yesterday → I saw him yesterday.
  • For + durée (for two weeks), since + point de départ (since Monday).
  • Français « J'habite ici depuis... » = I have lived here for / since...
