Jupiter is the biggest planet.Jupiter est la plus grosse planète.
Venus is the hottest planet.Vénus est la planète la plus chaude.
Mercury is the closest to the Sun.Mercure est la plus proche du Soleil.
Neptune is the farthest from the Sun.Neptune est la plus éloignée du Soleil.
Saturn is less dense than water.

Comparatif des adjectifs courts : -er than (bigger than) ; superlatif : the -est (the biggest). Attention : hot → hotter, big → bigger (consonne doublée).

Mise en situation : le jeu des records

Teacher : Which planet is the closest to the Sun?
Lina : Mercury! So it's the hottest planet, right?
Mercure !
Teacher : No! Venus is hotter than Mercury. Its thick atmosphere traps the heat.
Non ! Vénus est plus chaude que Mercure. Son atmosphère épaisse piège la chaleur.
Tom : Which is the biggest planet?
Quelle est la plus grosse planète ?
Teacher : Jupiter. It's much bigger than the Earth. More than a thousand Earths could fit inside it!
Jupiter.
Lina : And Neptune is the farthest from the Sun. It must be the coldest!

  • bigger / smaller / hotter / colder than ; the biggest, the hottest, the closest, the farthest.
  • much bigger than ; consonne doublée : hot → hotter, big → bigger.
