She is regarded as one of the greatest English novelists.

It is a truth universally acknowledged... Le passif sert à présenter : It was published in 1813. She is regarded as...

Mise en situation : le club de lecture

Kate : I've just finished Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth is such a modern character!
Je viens de finir Orgueil et Préjugés. Elizabeth est un personnage tellement moderne !
Leo : Why modern? It was written more than two hundred years ago.
Pourquoi moderne ? Ça a été écrit il y a plus de deux cents ans.
Kate : Because she refuses to marry a man just for money. In 1813, that was very brave.
Leo : And Darcy? At first, everyone thinks he's proud and rude.
Kate : Exactly. The title says it all: his pride and her prejudice. They both have to change.
Exactement.
Leo : So the real lesson is: don't trust first impressions!
