The bones are wrapped in plaster.

Mise en situation : l'interview

Journalist : What does a palaeontologist actually do?
Que fait concrètement un paléontologue ?
Scientist : First, there's fieldwork. We excavate fossils, often in deserts. The bones are wrapped in plaster to protect them.
Journalist : And then?
Et ensuite ?
Scientist : They're taken to the lab, where they're cleaned and studied. It can take years!
Journalist : How do you know how old a fossil is?
Comment savez-vous l'âge d'un fossile ?
Scientist : Fossils are dated thanks to the rock layers around them. Then we test our hypotheses against the evidence.
