William Shakespeare naît en 1564 à Stratford-upon-Avon, une petite ville du centre de l'Angleterre. À 18 ans, il épouse Anne Hathaway ; ils ont trois enfants. Il part ensuite à Londres, où il devient acteur puis auteur. Il écrit environ 37 pièces (comédies, tragédies, pièces historiques) et 154 sonnets. Sa troupe joue au théâtre du Globe, construit en 1599. Il meurt en 1616 dans sa ville natale. Pour les dates : in 1564 se lit fifteen sixty-four.
