the right to be forgottenle droit à l'oubli
You can ask a search engine to delist some results.
I wish I hadn't posted that photo.Je regrette d'avoir publié cette photo.
The internet never forgets.Internet n'oublie jamais.

Politicians shouldn't be able to erase their past.

Pour exprimer un regret sur le passé : I wish I hadn't + participe passé (je regrette d'avoir...), If only I had...

Mise en situation : le débat

Teacher : Imagine an embarrassing photo of you from age thirteen is still online. What can you do?
Emma : I'd be so embarrassed! I wish I hadn't posted it. In Europe, I can ask the search engine to delist it.
J'aurais tellement honte !
Teacher : That's the right to be forgotten. Should it apply to everyone?
C'est le droit à l'oubli. Devrait-il s'appliquer à tout le monde ?
Theo : Not to politicians! If they could erase their scandals, voters wouldn't know the truth.
Emma : I agree. It must be balanced against freedom of information and the public interest.
Theo : But for ordinary people, especially teenagers, everyone deserves a second chance. The internet shouldn't remember everything forever.
