a world map 🗺️une carte du monde
the equatorl'équateur
to distortdéformer
Greenland looks as big as Africa.
In reality, Africa is 14 times bigger.
a projectionune projection (cartographique)

Teacher : Look at this world map. Which is bigger, Greenland or Africa?
Hugo : They look the same size!
Teacher : In reality, Africa is fourteen times bigger than Greenland.
Ines : What? So the map is wrong?
Quoi ? Alors la carte est fausse ?
Teacher : Not wrong, but distorted. Countries far from the equator look bigger than they are.
Hugo : That's why Europe looks so big!
C'est pour ça que l'Europe a l'air si grande !

À retenir
