Les pronoms sujets font l'action (I, he, she...). Les pronoms compléments la subissent ou suivent une préposition.

SujetComplémentExemple
ImeCan you help me?
youyouI love you.
hehimI know him.
sheherCall her!
ititI like it.
weusCome with us!
theythemI saw them yesterday.

La place

En anglais, le pronom complément se place après le verbe, contrairement au français : « Je le vois » → I see him. Après une préposition, on utilise toujours la forme complément : with me, for her, about them.

Les pièges

Them remplace aussi bien des personnes que des choses : My shoes? I put them in my bag. Et à l'oral, on dit It's me! (c'est moi), Me too! (moi aussi), Not me! (pas moi).

I gave her a present. / She gave it to him.
Je lui ai offert un cadeau. / Elle le lui a donné.

Mise en situation : à la recherche d'un téléphone

Lucy : Have you seen my phone? I can't find it.
Tu as vu mon téléphone ? Je ne le trouve pas.
Ben : No. Ask Tom and Sarah. I saw them in the kitchen.
Non. Demande à Tom et Sarah. Je les ai vus dans la cuisine.
Lucy : Tom! Did you take my phone? Give it to me!
Tom ! Tu as pris mon téléphone ? Rends-le-moi !
Tom : Not me! Sarah borrowed it. Call her!
Pas moi ! C'est Sarah qui l'a emprunté. Appelle-la !

À retenir

  • Je le vois = I see him (pronom après le verbe).
  • them = eux / elles / les (personnes ou choses).
