Les dark patterns sont des astuces de conception utilisées par certains sites et applications pour nous faire faire des choses que nous ne voulions pas : un essai gratuit (a free trial) qui se transforme en abonnement payant, une case précochée (a pre-ticked box), un faux compte à rebours (a countdown timer) qui pousse à acheter vite, un bouton de désabonnement caché, des frais cachés (hidden costs) au dernier moment. Plusieurs pays commencent à les interdire. Structures : to trick someone into + V-ing (pousser par la ruse à), make someone + verbe (faire faire), It's designed to... (c'est conçu pour).

Mise en situation : au CDI

Oscar : I'm so annoyed! I signed up for a free trial, and now the app has charged me twenty euros.

Je suis tellement énervé ! Je me suis inscrit à un essai gratuit, et maintenant l'appli m'a prélevé vingt euros.

Clara : Did you forget to cancel?

Tu as oublié de te désabonner ?

Oscar : I tried! But the cancel button was hidden in the settings. It took me ages to find it.

J'ai essayé ! Mais le bouton d'annulation était caché dans les paramètres. J'ai mis des heures à le trouver.

Clara : That's a dark pattern. It's designed to make you give up.

C'est un dark pattern. C'est conçu pour te faire abandonner.

Oscar : And there was a countdown: "Offer ends in 5 minutes!" It tricked me into subscribing.

Et il y avait un compte à rebours : « L'offre se termine dans 5 minutes ! » Ça m'a poussé à m'abonner.

Clara : Next time, read everything carefully, and set a reminder before the trial ends.

La prochaine fois, lis tout attentivement, et programme un rappel avant la fin de l'essai.
