Avec une lampe (a torch) et ses mains, on peut faire des ombres chinoises (shadow puppets) sur le mur : un lapin, un chien, un oiseau... Quand on rapproche les mains de la lumière (closer to the light), l'ombre devient plus grande (bigger) ; quand on les éloigne, elle devient plus petite (smaller). Une ombre se forme car la lumière ne traverse pas nos mains : elles sont opaques.

Mise en situation : un soir dans la chambre

Leo : Let's make shadow puppets! Turn off the big light.
Faisons des ombres chinoises ! Éteins la grande lumière.
Mia : OK. I'll shine the torch on the wall.
D'accord. J'éclaire le mur avec la lampe.
Leo : Look! Put your hands like this... it's a rabbit! It's got two long ears.
Regarde ! Mets tes mains comme ça... c'est un lapin ! Il a deux longues oreilles.
Mia : Move closer to the light. The rabbit gets bigger!
Rapproche-toi de la lumière. Le lapin devient plus grand !
Leo : Now it's a giant rabbit! Can you make a bird?
Maintenant, c'est un lapin géant ! Tu sais faire un oiseau ?
Mia : Yes! Cross your thumbs and flap your fingers. Tweet!
Oui ! Croise tes pouces et bats des doigts. Cui !
